Three Ways To Style A Print!

June 30, 2021

The Place For Print!

This kind of reminded me of a school uniform (not that there’s anything wrong with that! Lol)

Let’s face it, print gives an outfit a bit of interest – along with lots of other things, of course!

Look 1: Tartaning it up!

I picked up this skirt, jumper and belt from the local boutique that sells gently pre-worn clothing. I had the opportunity to work in store for a couple of weeks and really had a great time styling a couple of women who were keen to change up their look.

I tend to be fairly flexible in sizing and will buy a size or two up and make it work for me by hitching, pinning and belting – which was exactly what I did with this little number. I added a white skirt under the thin knit and let the tales hang out on the diagonal to draw the eye downwards – I generally avoid horizontal lines so that my petite body isn’t cut in half, so as to speak.

I loved the preppy finished look and the printed scarf around the neck gave this a bit of wintry warmth, because even though Wollongong is mostly sunny, it has been a bit chilly!

Look Two: Animal Print Love

You’ve probably noticed a pattern here, and that is that I tend to wear my prints on the bottom. I do this because I’m generally bigger on the top – being fairly broad shouldered from years of swimming as a growing girl.

I’ve placed the print in such a way as to draw the eye to that place on my body.

As always, I continue to love wearing booties during the cooler weather and a medium heel is really comfortable for me when I’m on my feet all day.

Don’t forget the details of a pretty necklace, sunnies, a matching animal print watch and of course a cute belt – and you will notice that I’ve kept the volume of the oversized jumper to a minimum by doing the side-front tuck up with said eye-catching belt.

Look Three: Double Trouble!

Sometimes a more is more look is the best option!

The print on the top is slightly different to the print on the skirt and it’s a different fabric – more of a jersey, whereas the skirt is satin; but be that as it may I feel they work well together.

I’ve reduced some of the drama of the two pieces together with the faux suede cropped jacket, little brown bag, cinnamon coloured booties and of course the mandatory belt to give the outfit shape. Of course, there are times that I would wear this animal print with all black accessories but the day was so lovely that it called for a more light and airy look.

I would love to hear what you think about wearing prints and maybe even what your favourite one would be?

Fantastic outfits + ideas! I really, really dig prints as well. Plaid and tartans are perpetual faves, with florals (especially on dark backgrounds), hearts, anything celestial related (stars, moons, etc), and vintage “novelty” prints being amongst my personal faves.

Big hugs & the loveliest of July wishes coming your way, dear Donna.
