Dressing To Be Seen! 🤗🥰😉💯
‘INVISIBLE’ – adjective: not visible, not perceptible by the eye, withdrawn from or out of sight; hidden, not perceptible or discernible by the mind (according to the Oxford English Dictionary)
DISCLAIMER: if you’re perfectly happy with your choices in style, that’s great! You do you!
This is just some advice and a few clues for those of you who’d like greater visibility.

Let’s face it as women, and especially those of us with a few more runs on the board, we are constantly being instructed on a whole lot of rules of life and it’s easy enough to get caught up with the opinions of others and even feel a bit confused about the direction to take when it comes to the issue of personal style.
So many of us have raised families, had fulfilling and successful careers and achieved remarkably in many areas of our life and yet we still have those niggling doubts about whether this or that is too “whatever” for our age and stage of life.
I’m here to say, as someone who has always taken style on board as a “thing”, that being noticed, an elevated look and feeling confident when I step out or when I stay in, are real game-changers.

As we age, many of us women can feel invisible, possibly leading to plummeting self-value and self-esteem because we feel neither seen nor heard.
I’m here to show you how to be visible with just a few tweaks to your style … so read on, my friends!

1. Wear Some Print
Somewhere… okay so it doesn’t have to be an all over one like how I’ve gone wild with animal print in the middle pic, you can tone that down by pairing a print with something neutral as shown below.

You could go for something more subtle like the embroidery and orange pops in the outfit on the pic on the right.

It’s great to show the confidence that you are prepared and willing to be seen rather than fading into the background and feeling passed over and overlooked – if you don’t think you’re special and show that, why would anyone else?
We create our own reality, so if you wish to be seen AND heard make the effort with a bit of medium sized print like the floral in the top in the pic on the left shown here with the burgundy pleather pants and then there’s my old favourite of tartan … shown below.

2. Wear A Colour Other Than Unrelieved Black And Don’t Forget Some Texture!
As in the pic on the right, some little pops of colour go a long way to showing your cuteness and individuality and are a really good conversation starter!

The same goes for the burgundy, pink and green in the medium sized floral print top – they catch the eye without looking too granny (not that there’s anything wrong with grannies or if you like that look, it’s fine too!)
Also I love pairing the animal print with beige/camel/brown accessories instead of the old failsafe of black – it sort of sets you apart a bit and shows you’re a risk taker because EVERYONE seems to go for good old black!

And don’t forget to mix some pleather, some velvet, some faux suede and some silk ..

3. Wear Interesting Footwear And/Or Headwear
I love wearing cute booties and shoes and have built up quite a collection over the years. There are so many fun and interesting styles from which to choose in a variety of price points.

I read some rule somewhere that women of a certain age shouldn’t wear a hat because it can be seen as attention-seeking and I say well bring it on!
Living in Australia it makes sense to wear hats and caps all year round because it’s super sunny in most parts of the country all year and we have the highest rates of melanoma (skin cancer) in the world with the ozone layer depleted over our continent from the industrial pollution of the northern hemisphere.
Apart from that I just think they’re a stylish and fun element and once again make an excellent talking point while you’re waiting in line at woollies or wherever …

So thank you so much for making a visit to my little corner of the web, I hope you’re safe and well, wherever you are in the world and I’d love to hear your thoughts on things I’ve raised here,

You look marvelous in ALL the looks – certainly fit to be SEEN!
I’m on a weird fence of…I don’t try to be invisible but I also don’t really try to draw attention to myself (more for emotional/anxiety reasons than trying to hid my body). And I just wear what I like 🙂
Great post, Donna!

I hear you – I’m here for people wearing whatever it is that they like and in which they feel comfortable, as I wrote in my disclaimer at the beginning of the post, but there are women out there who express annoyance and frustration about being “invisible” and that’s what I’m referring to here.
All in all, it’s just a bit of fun. I’m actually working to reveal more of my voice in my posts so appreciate your feedback!

June 24, 2021 at 5:09 pmFantastic suggestions + reminder to us all that there’s nothing wrong with embracing visibility, however we choice to interpret that personally, as we continue to age. This is message the world would be well served to hear (and take to heart!) on a very regular basis.

Yes, we as women need to feel seen and heard as we age and I’ve just talked about some aesthetic issues to give people a bit of confidence in standing their ground!
