Styling a Navy Dress Fifties Style πŸ‘—πŸ₯°πŸ€—

Navy Blue and Shopping My Wardrobe!

I felt the weather was such as to bring this beautifully American designed and made dress out to play.

I had seen this brand and dress online but I was lucky enough to purchase it from a brick and mortar shop, my preferred method to shop, many years ago.

The fabric is a gorgeous deep navy and it is a heavy cotton with some spandex to give that bit of comfort.

Anyone for Tea?

This dress is the classic “tea length”, which is arguably unflattering, but I quite like it.

You will notice if you look through my blog and, even more so my Instagram, that I frequently wear retro styles. That being said I am by no means a purist and my eclectic style is testimony to this.

The dress has a form fitted fully lined bodice and box pleated unlined skirt and most excitingly it has pockets – something so frequently lacking in women’s clothing!!

I wore it to a meeting with the artist who is designing our labels and logo for our little honey producing and craft business ‘Purple Sting’.

The initial drawings have been completed and we’re very excited to see the final product and to be able to get things rolling in the new year – and new decade!!

I have high hopes for the next stage of my life and look forward to the challenges with gusto!

Some Simplicity...

The dress delivers on its own with its cute collar attached to the wide v-neckline, the large, covered buttons on the bodice to give a faux coat-dress look and a delightful same fabric belt, half sleeves and the aforementioned box pleats and pockets.

With the beautiful design of the dress I preferred to keep the accessories simple and only added “blue suede shoes”, a wooden bangle, small silver hoops and necklace and tortoiseshell sunnies.

I felt really good in this dress and received so many sweet comments when I went out and about in it after the meeting.

Climate Change Update!!

Thank you to those of you who expressed concerns for us here in Australia as extreme and unprecedented bushfires have been sweeping the Pacific east coast.

We had fires burning only 15 kilometres from the farm here at Eden and packed up and went back up the coast to Wollongong and to relative safety.

The issue is that we are getting extreme high temperatures, together with massive winds, following on from the driest winter on record – some towns are running out of water and some already have, and the water is being trucked in …

The fire front was 1000 kilometres at one point, stretching from Sydney to Brisbane, which has been devastating in terms of property loss, agricultural land and animals – and to our wildlife. 80% of koala habitats have been lost and thousands of them have been burnt to death.

Our government has said now is not the time to talk about climate change – I cannot believe the ignorance and greed … so instead we have had an influx of fire fighters from the USA and Canada – to whom we are very grateful – to assist with fighting the horrendous and seemingly never ending fire threat! Remember that the summer has just begun!!

Thank you for joining me in my little corner of the web and I’d love you to visit me in my Instagram or leave a comment about retro dressing, wearing things that have long been in your wardrobe, climate change or koalas…

Stunning dress on you! Highlights your small waistline! Love the color and your hair looks great in a retro style. I enjoy changing things up and wearing some dresses that are vintage inspired as well.
