Black: Feminine and Edgy…
I’m writing this whilst still recovering from breast reconstruction surgery.
Another post where I talk about wearing black https://donnadoesdresses.com/?s=Formal
and here https://donnadoesdresses.com/2018/08/12/not-so-basic-black/
I’ve been surprised by how much this operation has knocked me with me unable to do much of anything …
These photos were taken a few weeks back and I didn’t get around to doing a post on the outfit so I thought now was a highly opportune time.
Those of you who visit my little corner of the web know I prefer colourful options when I’m dressing but I couldn’t resist this feminine, tiered organza skirt when I was wandering through H & M.
I’ve worn it with a pre-loved designer wrap top, so mixing fast fashion with slow, I guess!!
Ticking the Boxes…
It’s a very pretty skirt, but not too flouncy so doesn’t add bulk around the hips.
I love the versatile length and shape of it and I would envisage wearing it with a graphic t-shirt or plainer top and some sandals, or it would even work with the heavy boot trend, for day wear.
One thing I’ve learnt from the breast cancer thing is that life is too short not to have a bit of fun where you want it – and for me one of those areas is in regard to fashion.
I do not wait for an occasion but make the occasion – wearing my pretty clothing, lighting my special candles and using and getting the most out of my “good stuff” …
Date Night Glam…
I dressed for a fun date night – we live part of our time in the heart of the little beachside town of Wollongong, so have easy walking access to restaurants and bars.
We headed off to a few different places, had some nice drinks, listened to some great music and a light meal.
We decided to wear our old long, black, matching leather coats and I added my beret, a big chunky necklace, fishnets stockings and little shoe booties.
Overall, it was a fun evening and I’m looking forward to changing this skirt up for a more springy or summery look as the weather warms up and I’m back in my feet!!
Thank you for joining me in my little corner of the web and you can see more of my daily dressing on my donnadoesdresses Instagram.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on special occasion dressing … and using your candles!!

September 23, 2019 at 10:43 pmThank you so much dear Laurie!! Yess!! It is romantic and the tiers are very prettily done – I feel a bit guilty because the purchase of this skirt goes against my opinions on fast fashion! I was walking through H&M to get out across the mall when I spied a throwout box and I picked this up for $10 – I couldnβt resist it!! But it is lovely! ….π§π»ββοΈπβ€οΈ
