Refreshing My Sleepspace..

I am participating in the linkup with Is This Mutton https://www.isthismutton.com/2019/08/midi-skirt-with-white-trainers-or-black.html

I am participating in the linkup with A Pocketful of Polkadots https://www.apocketfulofpolkadots.com/2019/08/mustard-polka-dot-pants/

This is a rather long post so grab a cuppa, get settled and read on ….

I have always liked to give credit where it’s due and although I usually like to do home posts from time to time, I was even more inspired by Nicole from High Latitude Style and Lizzie from Lizzie In Lace who discussed their bedroom changes in depth.

I’ve also had a nice boost this week as I was interviewed about my style by Imogen from Insideoutstyleblog.com and you can read it here https://insideoutstyleblog.com/2019/08/donna-does-dresses-2.html .. I had so much fun articulating my views on various aspects of my style habits and practices! I’d love you to pop over there and have a look!!

On With the Bedroom!!

I enjoy my home and feel very grateful to have somewhere that is such a delight to spend most of my time these days.

I talk about my Hygge bedroom in another post here https://donnadoesdresses.com/2018/07/20/making-things-hygge/ and here https://donnadoesdresses.com/?s=Hygge+bedroom

I was brought up to work hard for what I want in life, and to appreciate the good things that brought!

This includes feeling good about cleaning my home and taking pride in maintaining it to the standard that I enjoy.

As we move into spring here in Australia it’s great to do a bit of a change up of the living spaces to accomodate the brighter, longer and warmer days.

I love my bedroom and love everything to be cosy and comfy to get the best out of a good night’s rest.

From East to West…

It’s nice to wake up to the sun pouring in from the east through this gorgeous old leadlight window that we scored many years ago from a second hand building supplier.

The mini orb was also repurposed and gives the space a fun, industrial feel.

It’s been decorated with other old pieces that we have picked up here and there around the place.

Remembering Dad..

My father had been a builder and continued to work (#so he could earn some extra money to keep his American cars registered… lol) until just before he passed away with melanoma at the age of 83.

He’s been gone a very long time but he’s often in my thoughts as we shared lots of things such as being left-handed, left of centre in our politics, the seventh born in our respective families and being exacting people who don’t really suffer fools! πŸ™€

Dad knew I always loved, appreciated and enjoyed history, so he would often turn up with sweet pieces for me that someone he was working with didn’t want!

And that’s how I scored this fabulous old chest that was believed to have belonged to Dame Nellie Melba – a famous Opera Singer – but who knows? And I could care less as the main thing is it’s a delightfully crafted opportunity for me to store my pretty lingerie!

The farm is a wooden American barn and as such the two bedrooms are housed in the attic.

There are no actual wardrobes so I have a fairly makeshift manner of storing my clothing – which seems to work!

Making Use of Fun Finds…

I love repurposed stuff – so that’s what much of my furniture in this room consists of, although the bed was bought as a new piece and I just love the woodiness and timber finish of this fun oak four-poster.

I’ve used some old pieces of marble I found in a second hand place on the bedside tables that I sourced from here and there.

This pretty and bright quilt cover and sheet set gives some springtime vibrancy as we look forward to the upcoming summer.

Each of the bedrooms have a dormer window.

They also have a velux window and I soo enjoy waking at times in the wee small hours and looking out at the Southern Cross and the beautiful southern constellations, imagining sailors of the past looking for the great southern land …

Rustic Simplicity…

We live a relatively rustic and simple life down here and enjoy a slow pace, embracing the nature and abundance all around us and being ever grateful for it!!

Thank you for joining me in my little corner of the web today and I’d love to hear your thoughts on changing up your home for the seasons in the comments below!!

Hehehe!! Thank you so much, dear Laurie!! Yess!! We’ve had the boys for five years and before them we had a pair of beautiful chihuahuas who became three and when they passed away we just didn’t have the heart for another dog although these pair are like dogs in many ways!! We love animals and they really are a joy in our lives with the kids all grown up and moved out of home!! Thank you for your lovely comment!
