Some Red Here and Some Red There …
I am participating in the linkin by www.glamadventure.com
I’ve always regarded red as my favourite colour to wear.
There was a time when my entire wardrobe consisted of either black or red clothing.
In recent years I’ve widened my colour spectrum to include lots of jewel colours like green, blue and purple …
Today I’m going to talk about these two beautiful dresses that are vintage, red and therefore work well with my bent for sustainability.
Sustainable Shopping
Last year, while I was in the midst of my breast cancer treatments I happened across the cute little ‘The Classy Closet’, a gorgeous little shop in Wollongong run by a delightful woman who has a similar outlook on a whole lot of things to myself.
She collects beautiful, quality, designer label clothing from a variety of sources and sells it for very reasonable prices.
I particularly like her vintage styles, although she does sell contemporary clothing as well!
Same, Same But Different!
So both of these dresses are from Australian designer, Anthea Crawford.
They are both 1980’s does 1940’s red fine Australian wool dresses.
So ideal for winter – barely even needed to wear more than the tights/fishnets stockings and gloves … but added my cropped leather biker jacket for extra oomph!!
The style and detailing of each dress is quite different from the other, although they have a similar silhouette – and they are quite flattering to my petite hourglass frame.
I love the Bladerunner vibe that they give – but you know me and Science Fiction, we go way back before the Apollo series and beyond into Alien and Battlestar Galactica …
Donna Does Details …
I always notice details.
Always have … maybe it’s because I’m a bit on the spectrum, but this is something that I have a bit of a thing for, and one of the things I love about dressing – getting the details the way I want them!!
These are both winter dresses so tights/stockings are a must have here on the south east coast of Australia.
I’ve decided to pair the dress with the black velvet shoulder detail with double layered black tights and red fishnets, cute black bowed low-heeled shoes, simple black patent belt, red leather gloves, cat’s eye sunnies and my black beret.
The gold button dress has been paired with red rose patterned tights, red and black Mary-Janes, black belt, black with red spot and bow gloves and red cat’s eye sunnies.
The look could be switched for each of the dresses – I have a red beret and I think I might wear that next time I put on one of these dresses.
Looks and Comments..
The looks and comments I get when I’m out tend to encourage me to continue to pursue my own style with most people fairly positive about what I’m wearing.
I feel good about breathing new life into old things and not getting on the fast fashion treadmill!!
Thank you for joining me in my little corner of the web, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on wearing vintage clothing or fast fashion in the comments below,

August 4, 2019 at 10:01 pmOh thank you so much for your kind comment, Emma!! How fun is vintage – and red? These dresses were beautiful made and gorgeous quality designer dresses in the eighties and had barely been worn so I feel privileged to be able to give them an airing now!! I actually have another fabulous red dress from the era but I need to remove the shoulder pads as theyβre a tad large!! Have a great week, Emma!
