Saturday Steamfest Fun:
The end of April sees the coal mining town of Lithgow, west of Sydney, come to life celebrating its humble beginnings of iron production for a whole weekend of festive fun.
People come from all over, dressed in all manner of costumes, with all sorts of skills and talents to share with the crowd.
There are heaps of stalls of appropriate clothing and equipment and displays of battles, equipment, paraphernalia and they were all just so fun!!
I have a love of the Victorian and Edwardian period with its feminine look and the steampunk is that … but with an edge.
We stayed at this cool place that was right in the bush and had gorgeous views down one of the many valleys of The Blue Mountains..
Pulling It Together!!
These costumes take a bit of organising and I started with a long velvet, scooped neck dress with burgundy trim around the neckline and cuffs.

Added to this was a pleather steampunk-style waistcoat, embossed coat, velvet bag, boots and the mandatory cool hat..
The costume for Day 2 is a little different and will feature in a different post.. https://donnadoesdresses.com/?s=Steampunk
Attending To The Details…
In order to get the punk effect right I used large decorative safety pins to pull up the skirt and give the dress an edgier look..
I decorated the hat with bits and bobs of cogs, wheels, tulle and such.
I also added an umbrella, some lace fingerless gloves and some cool steampunk goggles when I was able to purchase them from stalls at the festival! You can see pictures below…
It was important to get the under things just right so I went for a red and black bra and panties over the fishnet bodystocking and the corset, over which I placed two petticoats – one longer than the other…
Cosplay And All That!!
Life is short.
It was so fun to enjoy this time dressing up as another persona and participating in this fun and fabulous event this year.
I will definitely be doing more of this, as there are other Steampunk and cosplay options available this year.
I will be putting on the costume I wore in Day 2 later this week.
Here are some pictures of some of the fun of the day…
