I will be honest with you right up front and tell you that casual is not my preferred aesthetic.

I have had a lifelong romance with dressing well and I love pretty, feminine clothes that make me look, and most importantly feel, my best at all times …

As a woman with an hourglass shape, I have found that casual clothing does me very few favours. Casual clothing, like jeans, tends to suit the tall and slim – not the short and shapely.

Here you can see me in typical contemporary, casual daywear and although the outfits are passable, I just don’t feel my authentic self in them.

I’ve tried to groove them up a bit with the addition of a cute jacket, brooches, heels, booties and scarves …

Recently my shape has found its way back into vogue, for the first time since the 1950s, and for the first time in my lifetime.

This has meant that even casual clothing has changed, in terms of cut and fit, and is more flattering and accessible to people like myself.

High waisted jeans, pants, skirts and dresses are now readily available and give a more tailored and chic look to any outfit.

To me this outfit is casual. I prefer wearing skirts and have teamed this polkadot skirt with a navy top, denim fitted vest, tights, fairly low-heeled booties, polkadot scarf and denim jacket …

To me, casual is the hardest look to style because it’s not a style I feel altogether comfortable wearing, but in the end I just wear what I like and those who know me have learned to accept this: just living my best life!
